Living alongside the LIRR tracks, I sometimes hear odd diesels outside my window. On the night of the pre-New Years Blizzard, this beauty appeared and I rushed outside to capture a rare bird at work. The double ended Plasser-American dynamic track stabilizer had a snow plow/blower, and brush unit at each end. The crew awaited repair of side brushes which clear the third rail. |

| The PTS unit is normally used during track work, after balast has been laid; via off center flywheels, it shakes the tracks and balast so that the balast settles and locks into place. |
